Veterans Day 2024: What’s on and off in New York?

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11. This was originally a day set aside to commemorate the end of World War I, but is now a time when our nation pauses to honor all U.S. military veterans.

Parades are held across the country to honor all who serve in all branches of the U.S. military.

The 2024 New York City Veterans Day Parade will take place on Monday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The parade will march down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, between 25th and 45th streets, and will be broadcast on WABC TV and online.

The parade is expected to consist of approximately 300 marching and vehicle units and host 20,000 participants from across America, representing every service branch of the military and every era.

Below is a list of what’s open and closed on Staten Island on Monday in observance of Veterans Day.

Federal, state, and city agencies and courts: Closed.

Staten Island Advance: Will publish

Banks: most closed

US Stock Markets: Open

US Post Offices: Closed

Sanitation: There will be no trash pickup, curbside composting or recycling collection on Veterans Day. Residents who normally pick up trash, curbside composting or recycling pickup on Monday must leave their materials curbside for Monday evening pickup starting Tuesday, Nov. 12. Residents may experience pickup delays as the Sanitation Department works to clear the backlog of materials.

City Parking Violations Bureau: Parking meter regulations will not apply and standing, standing and parking are permitted except in areas where these rules apply seven days a week.

New York Public Library branches: Closed

Public transport: Staten Island Ferry will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Staten Island Railroad It will operate on its normal weekday schedule. Buses will also operate on a scheduled basis on weekdays.

Public schools: Closed

Department of Motor Vehicles: Closed
