Two people are in custody and a number of roads along Hobart’s East Coast are playing out as a major police incident this afternoon.

Witnesses reported seeing a man wearing a balaclava driving a white vehicle carelessly after he had previously evaded police near Gagebrook.

Police were seen scurrying through the East End suburbs this afternoon with rescue helicopter support.

Police said road closures were still in place at Bligh St and Gordons Hill Road, Ross Ave and Gordons Hill Road, and Gordons Hill Road and Cambridge Road.
