The shooting occurred after a community member went to the police station, managed to grab the firearm of one of the officers at the station, and opened fire inside the police station.

The suspect fled the scene and was cornered on the street, where he was later shot and killed by police.

The cause of the conflict remains unclear.

Gauteng Police Deputy Commissioner Fred Kekana said the officers were taken to hospital with shoulder injuries.

“A police officer in plainclothes. He was keeping his gun in its holster. The suspect then grabbed the gun and started shooting randomly.”

“Officers were receiving medical attention and were in stable condition, and other officers chased him until they found him, suffering fatal injuries in the process,” he said.
