latest update The November vote went back to October, when a $48 million bond was proposed to address drainage problems, but voters later rejected the proposal. KRIS 6 NEWS asked Willie Garcia about the bond denial.

“Where is all this money we have? As for the grants, the 5.5 million that passed four years ago, let’s go out there and dig and dig and get things going,” Garcia said.

Garcia said running was important to him because he is a Bluebonnet resident and has been personally affected by the flooding issues.

“It’s flooding my entire neighborhood in Bluebonnet, and that’s with just five to seven inches of rain,” Garcia said. “Imagine if we hit a CAT 1 or a Tropical storm, we could literally have a bigger problem.”

This will be the first time three seats have been filled for Drainage District #2 in almost a year. In December 2023, then-commissioner David ‘Petey’ Martinez resigned to become mayor of Robstown. His seat was never filled.

Robert Gonzalez said he was pleased to see the commission become a three-member board again.

“I want to be able to work with the other two commissioners in the office and have an understanding that what we do is going to be for the people, for the people,” Gonzalez said.
