The fire at the oil refinery in northwestern Turkey was brought under control

The fire that broke out at Tüpraş’s Izmit Refinery in Kocaeli in northwestern Turkey on Tuesday afternoon caused concerns but was quickly brought under control by the facility’s emergency response teams. The incident occurred during routine compressor maintenance, prompting an immediate investigation into the cause.

Kocaeli Governor İlhami Aktaş immediately went to the scene to inspect the intervention efforts and evaluate the impact of the fire. In his statements, he confirmed that the fire was caused by a technical malfunction and affected 12 workers who had to be hospitalized. Aktaş stated that all injured personnel are in good health and their health conditions are being closely monitored.

In his statement, Governor Aktaş wished a speedy recovery to the injured workers and thanked the emergency response teams for their rapid and effective intervention. He told the community that the situation was under control and “The fire has been brought under control and cooling efforts are continuing. The refinery is returning to normal operations.”

Tüpraş made an official statement about the incident, confirming the details of the fire and emphasizing that safety protocols were in place. The company noted that the fire broke out around 13.30 and was immediately intervened by refinery personnel. “Our teams took swift action to control the fire. The statement stated that 12 workers with minor injuries were treated and further evaluated. “The affected unit was safely shut down and all other refinery activities are proceeding normally.”
