Northeast Florida lawmakers demand inspection of Jacksonville USPS facility over lost and delayed mail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Customers reported important packages were sent being delivered to the wrong statesand in some cases mail disappears completely. These problems led to calls for a federal inspection of the United States Postal Service (USPS) facility in Jacksonville.

Congressman John Rutherford and four other U.S. Representatives from Northeast Florida and Georgia are demanding an audit of the Jacksonville Network Delivery Center (NDC).

Congressman Rutherford shared his concerns with News4JAX and emphasized the importance of timely delivery of essential supplies, especially medications and checks.

“I’m concerned about people not getting their medication on time, people not getting their checkups on time, that kind of thing,” Rutherford explained.

Congressman Rutherford, along with Representatives Aaron Bean, Michael Waltz, Kat Cammack, and Buddy Carter, signed a letter to the USPS Inspector General. The letter called for an investigation into the Jacksonville NDC after receiving numerous complaints from voters about mail being lost or delayed.

“I think they have a lot of work to do, so we sent them the letter encouraging them to address these issues,” Rutherford added.

The letter emphasizes that the Jacksonville NDC is currently undergoing renovations to repurpose it as a Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC). Despite these changes, NDC continues to process a high volume of packages, raising concerns about delays.

USPS customers are voicing similar concerns.

Brittany Rudd shared her recent experience: “We had an issue with a certified package that never arrived. “There was no follow-up and it was difficult to contact anyone to resolve the issue.”

The missing package contained a cashier’s check, adding to the urgency of the problem.

Another USPS customer, who wished to remain anonymous, shared a more unusual story.

“I bought a few housewarming gifts, and one of them didn’t show up until 10 years later when my neighbor found it in a storage bin for larger packages.”

While some USPS customers reported problems, others stated that their deliveries were on time and without problems. At this time, it remains unclear whether the Inspector General will proceed with the requested audit.
