JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Varsity 4 covers every step of the way for week 11 of the high school football season, with two nights of action in the final week of the regular season.

Four people to watch on Friday

Creekside (5-4), (7) at Ponte Vedra (7-2), Varsity 4 Game of the Week

Unlike last year when these teams met, play-off spots have been determined for both teams. The Knights reached the play-offs last year after a late-season surge propelled them into the top eight of the postseason. Creekside won its first district championship in program history this year, while the Sharks sit comfortably in fourth place in District 1-5A. A win by Ponte Vedra (and a loss by Tallahassee Lincoln to Rickards) could give the Sharks just enough to move into the No. 3 seed. But it is more realistic for them to stay where they are. Creekside is ranked No. 5 in Region 1-7A and will host Flagler Palm Coast if the playoffs begin today. A defeat would drop them and possibly drag them into an opening away play-off match. Creekside has a strong offense with QB Sean Ashenfelder (486 rushing yards, 13 TDs; 1,522 passing yards, 10 TDs) and RB Harrison Garrido (1,066 rushing yards, 12 TDs) leads the way. QB for Sharks Drew Price (1,294 passing yards, 11 TDs) and RB Brian Case He leads the offense (1,116 rushing yards, 15 TDs). On defense, DLs Martin Geary (35 steals, 10 TFL, 6 sacks), Ryker Kemp (30 tackles, 9 sacks) and Reece Beck (15 sacks, 8 sacks, 4 TFL) is tough. The Sharks are 10-7 in the all-time series, including a pair of wins in the playoffs.

Matanzas (4-5) (7-1) at Flagler Palm Coast

The annual Potato Bowl was dominated by the Bulldogs, who led the series 12-3 in the record books (but are 13-2 on the field after the loss in 2023). FPC still has an outside shot at the District 2-7A title, but Spruce Creek needs some help (to upset University). The likely scenario is you win and stay in 4th place in Region 1-7A. QB Hayden Hayes (2,131 passing yards, 25 TDs) has yet to throw an interception. WRs Mikhail Zysek (686 receiving yards, 11 TDs) and braylyn simmons (636 receiving yards, 7 TDs) are his favorite targets. R.B. Marcus Mitchell (1,303 rushing yards, 9 TDs) He has over 4,000 career rushing yards. For the Buccaneers, RBs Wiley Conner (371 rushing yards, 3 TDs) and Caden Burchfield (332 rushing yards, 3 TDs) powers offense and DL Omar Commissioner (5.5 sacks) and DB Cooper May (68 steals) leads the defense. The playoffs are a long way off for Matanzas, but a .500 record and beating its biggest rival will be important heading into the offseason.

(2) Nease by the Beach (7-0) (7-2)

One game out of two remains for the Panthers, who are looking for their first perfect regular season since 2006, which ended with a heavy defeat to Tampa Plant in the state championship game. Nease is at the top of the FHSAA scoring rankings and has been on another level from the start. QB Nate Harry (1,415 passing yards, 18 TDs; 302 rushing yards, 3 TDs) has a claim as the area’s top rusher and has two big targets maddox spencer (519 receiving yards, 7 TDs) and Vernon Stephens (316 receiving yards, 6 TDs). The defense plays like every move is the last move. LB Joe Miracle III (51 tackles, 14 TFL, 2 INT, 6.5 sacks) all-around playmaker. Databases Elisha Luckett has five choices and Shemar McNair He made both of his picks against Buchholz and clinched the overtime win. The Barracudas will likely make the playoffs for the first time, but it’s a tall order. QB Eddie Jordan (2,395 passing yards, 24 TDs) can launch fireworks and send the ball all over the field. WRs Drew Watson (815 receiving yards, 8 TDs) and Maddox Hunstead (629 receiving yards. 10 TDs) are Jordan’s big targets, but four other players caught TDs. DL Noah Lustrea He anchors the line with 6.5 sacks. The Barracudas sit in fifth place in Region 1-5A, but with an upset of Nease they will likely jump to fourth or even third place.

Providence (7-2) and Bishop Kenny (6-3)

A big game for both teams. The Crusaders are ranked fourth in Region 1-3A, but not by much. A win here would likely seal the District 4-3A championship for Menendez in the points standings. But…a loss to the Crusaders and a win for Menendez against Yulee could turn things around. Currently, Kenny would host Baker County in the first round, but a loss would shake things up big time. Kenny is in no danger of missing the play-offs with a loss, but a higher seeding would mean avoiding Raines in the regional round for as long as possible. QB Derek Heideman (1,123 passing yards, 13 TDs), RB Caleb Mattison (950 rushing yards, 14 TDs) and WR J.P. Donovan (486 receiving yards, 7 TDs) Leads the Crusaders’ offense. Providence is safe in the playoff seeding. The Stallions are No. 1 in Region 1-1A but lost to University Christian in the district championship. Could another defeat knock them off the top? QB Mason Williams (1,925 passing yards, 24 TDs; 559 rushing yards, 12 TDs) is a beast. RB Jaxon Harshman (632 yards, 3 TDs) and WR Noah Johnson (874 receiving yards, 9 TDs) leads Providence. On defense, DE Sam Hayward (50 tackles, 18 TFL, 89 sacks) we are one of the best in the region.

Next four to watch

Fernandina Beach (4-6), West Nassau (9-1): One of the best seasons ever for the Warriors as strong RBs Skyler Freeman (732 rushing yards, 14 TDs), Avery Griffin (448 rushing yards, 4 TDs), Andi Ataiza (414 rushing yards, 9 TDs) and Smo Green (392 rushing yards, 9 TDs) they do the heavy lifting. They are in the top bracket in the Sunshine State Athletic Association’s Atlantic State championship and could play for a title. But it won’t be easy. They face rival Pirates for the second time in the last four weeks.

Middleburg (6-3) at North Marion (4-5): The Broncos started 6-0 and lost their last three as the rivalry heated up. They are ranked No. 8 in District 1-5A and played the weakest schedule in the region by a significant margin. A loss here and Chile’s win over Suwannee could make things interesting come election time. The Broncos safely cruised to victory, which would be the program’s best regular season finish since 7-3 in 2003. This would be a huge accomplishment for the head coach. Ryan Wolfe. The Broncos were 0-10 as recently as 2020, the year before Wolfe was hired.

Union County (8-0) at Chiefland (7-1), 7:30 p.m. A huge clash between countryside title contenders. The Tigers are No. 1 in the Rural rankings, while the Indians are fifth. R.B. DrewSimmons (1,135 rushing yards, 13 TDs) and QB Trenton Klein (971 passing yards, 16 TDs) Power Corps.

Yulee (2-6) and Menendez (5-4): The Falcons are sixth in District 1-3A and should make the playoffs win or lose. But Menendez has an outside shot at the District 4-3A title, but it takes a win and a loss at Bishop Kenny to bolster that possibility.
