Hollywood Honors Teri Garr as a Comedy Legend

The late, great Teri Garr, who spiced up everything from sitcoms (Batman, That Girl, Friends), variety shows (Shindig!, Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour), talk shows (he’s done them all, but his classic appearances with Letterman are second to none), some of the funniest movies ever made (Young Frankenstein, Tootsie) and even the occasional drama (Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Conversation) is remembered today by his co-stars and colleagues in the light he had.

Michael Keaton as Garr Mr. Mom her leading lady wrote on Instagram: “This is a day I dreaded and knew was coming. Forget how amazing she was as an actress and comedian. She was an amazing woman. Not only great to work with, but great to be around. AND I can look back Watch her comedy work – Man, it was amazing! RIP girl.

“Remembering one of our favorite guests of all time,” Letterman writes in a brief post on Instagram, accompanied by a clip of the talk show host introducing Garr to a standing ovation.

“Oh man, this is so devastating,” tweeted Paul Feig, who manages Garr. Unaccompanied Children. “Teri was a legend. So funny, so beautiful, so kind. I had the honor of working with him in 2006 and he was everything I dreamed of. Truly one of my comedy heroes. I couldn’t love him more. “This is a huge loss.”

Michael McKean, who starred with Garr in 1999’s Kill the Man“I will always love Teri Garr,” she wrote.

Producer Gale Ann Hurd wrote: “A truly amazing actor and person… chic and I will never forget it. While Valiant was dealing with the ravages of MS, she feared losing her SAG health insurance, never complaining. We live in a country where #TerriGarr should be worried about this.”
