The threat of severe storms and wildfires will affect parts of the region tomorrow

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – Starting today, some clouds will stick around tonight, allowing temperatures to remain mild for the most part. A stationary front that will cut across the region from northeast to southwest. Beyond this front, lows to the east and south will be mostly in the 50s and 60s. On the front end, lows will mostly be in the 40s. There will even be a few 30s out west. Winds in eastern Nebraska will remain breezy and begin blowing from the south late at night and into tomorrow morning.

On Tuesday, the front will remain stationary or even shift slightly to the northwest. So it’s going to be a hot and windy day for most. South winds will gust to 15 to 30 mph, with gusts around 45 mph. This could lead to some blowing dust and at least some wildfire threat. It will be quite warm along the front with highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s. Northwest of this front will be cooler with highs in the 60s. There will even be 50s in the West. Tuesday night, some showers and thunderstorms will begin eastward across the region. As the night progresses and we move eastward, the chance of rain will increase. There may also be some isolated severe weather. The main threats will be quarter-sized hail and winds up to approximately 60 mph. Some showers may continue in the east on Wednesday. In fact, isolated and scattered severe weather may be visible in the far southeastern regions during Wednesday afternoon and evening. This is where the Storm Prediction Center reports a Slight Risk for severe storms. Much colder temperatures will fill in behind the cold front on Wednesday. High temperatures across most of the region will range from the mid-40s in the northwest to 60° in the southeast. Far southeast areas will be slightly milder, with highs in the 60s. Most will drop below freezing Wednesday night with mostly clear skies.

The work week will end rather quietly and somewhat seasonally. Other than feeling a little cool, there should be no weather problems on Halloween with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s and lower 60s. Friday will be a little warmer, dropping into the mid-60s. Winds will be a little stronger. Temperatures will remain somewhat similar towards the end of the week. Chances of rain will return to the forecast. The chances will be better as you move east on Saturday, but will remain quite low towards the west. Sunday’s chance is not guaranteed, but it does cover a larger portion of the field. The odds may actually increase on Monday and especially Tuesday leading up to election day. This will also come with cooler temperatures coming in from the northwest. This could bring the first snow of the season to Western Nebraska. More details will follow as the time gets closer.
