China’s Yin Ruoning wins the LPGA Tour’s Maybank Championship

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Yin Ruoning, who started the final round for a three-way lead, shot a 7-under 65 on Sunday to win the LPGA Tour’s Maybank Championship in Malaysia by one stroke for her second title this month.

Chinese Yin finished 23-under 265 with two safe shots on the final hole to beat Thai player Jeeno Thitikul (66), who finished second at last year’s event after losing the second-longest play-off in LPA Tour history.

Yin notched a dominant 6-shot victory at the LPGA Shanghai earlier this month and also won the 2024 Dow Championship in June, partnering Thitikul.

“I had such a great year last year that I was wondering if I could win again, if not, things like that,” Yin said. “But I think I’ve learned that I really have to have fun here and have fun here. fun, happy, that’s what I do.”

South Korean Haeran Ryu shot 67 and was two shots behind Yin.

American Bailey Tardy, who shot the equal best of the tour with 65, and the second round leader Maja Stark (70) from Sweden ranked fourth with a score of 16-272.

Hannah Green, who achieved her third victory of 2024 and the sixth victory of her career in South Korea last week, ranked sixth with 15 points under 273 with 65 cards. Americans Marina Alex (69), Hsu Wei-Ling (68) and Choi Hye-Jin (66).

Defending champion Celine Boutier of France was 11 strokes behind Yin after 72 shots and was tied for 12th.
