The driver, who allegedly hit two pedestrians with his car, fled the scene of the accident

Two pedestrians were seriously injured and taken to hospital after being hit by a car off a Launceston road overnight.

Emergency services were called to Hobart Road in Kings Meadows at around 11pm on Tuesday to reports of a car losing control.

Police said the 23-year-old female driver was “not at the scene” when officers arrived.

His car was found crashed into the fence of a house. Police said the man and woman were passing by at that time.

The pedestrians, who were apparently trapped under the vehicle, were taken to Launceston Public Hospital for treatment.

Police said the driver involved was later located at an address in South Launceston.

He is currently being held in police custody pending mandatory blood testing.

Crash investigators combed the scene for nearly four hours, and police asked anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
