Conservative Club to close with ‘deep regret’

The impending closure of Runcorn social club has been met with dismay by some who say it is a “huge loss” to the community.

Runcorn Conservative Club, affectionately known as ‘The Conny Club’, has announced its final farewell on social media, set for Saturday 30 November.

Heartfelt Facebook The club owners said in the post: “It is with deep sadness that we announce that the Conny club will soon be closing its doors due to circumstances beyond our control. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to all our customers, past and present. Thank you for being a part of our journey for their support and loyalty over the years .”

They said it was “business as usual” until the closing date. A regular customer shared his thoughts in the post, stating that the venue was a ‘hub’ for community life.

He commented: “For years the Conny club has been a local community hub offering something for everyone – snooker, darts, billiards and bingo. Members of all ages have met and many lasting friendships have been formed. With a great team, the service is always friendly.” provided smiles and conversation. This is a great loss and a sad day for the community.”

David Gray, president halton The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) branch said: “I’m very sorry to hear the Conny Club is closing. I believe it is very well supported in the local area and it’s sad to see venues used by the community close their doors.”

The club declined to comment further.
