RHL Boulevard reopens

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.. (WSAZ) – Contractors have reopened Jefferson Road’s RHL Boulevard connector following work on the next phase of the Jefferson Road widening project.

The road, which includes a 420-foot bridge, connects Jefferson Road to the Trace Fork Mall in South Charleston. The connector reopened as planned to avoid disrupting the busy holiday shopping season.

A traffic signal was installed at the intersection allowing traffic to make a left turn from Jefferson Road onto RHL Boulevard and a left turn from RHL Boulevard onto Jefferson Road.

Traffic signs have been placed on the road to warn drivers of signals ahead.

The RHL connector is part of the West Virginia Department of Highways (WVDOH) three-layered effort to alleviate traffic congestion at Corridor G and Jefferson Road in Charleston and South Charleston; this also includes widening Jefferson Road and speeding up traffic along Oakwood Road. The RHL connector provides an alternative entrance and exit to the Trace Fork, allowing drivers to access the mall from Corridor G or Jefferson Road.
