Thanksgiving prices drop this year, Bloomfield stores roll out AI-powered carts

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) – Thanksgiving is only two weeks away!

For consumers feeling the effects of inflation, some relief may finally be on the horizon.

Overall, grocery inflation declined last year.

Grocery stores like Geissler’s Supermarket in Bloomfield are trying to offer deals to shoppers.

Turkey prices have dropped this year.

“I’m looking forward to having fun with my family. I’m also looking forward to not spending too much money,” said Mark Lumpkin of Bloomfield.

Prices of some key Thanksgiving items are down from last year.

“Türkiye prices dropped by approximately 11 percent compared to last year. Wayne Pesce, president of the Connecticut Food Association, said ham prices are down about 2.5%.

There is also a decline in potatoes and cranberries.

“Shop early, leave early. Look around to find the best prices and best deals. They are outside. And be nice to people in the stores,” Pesce said.

Products such as stuffing, pecan pie and olive oil will be more expensive this year.

With Thanksgiving just two weeks away, grocery stores like Geissler’s are setting up their Thanksgiving displays and preparing to roll out holiday deals.

“We’re really trying to make sure we’re pricing correctly so people can have a good holiday,” said Eric Nilsson, Geissler’s Supermarket Chief Operating Officer.

“I recommend that you always try to pick up your belongings as early as possible. This way you avoid the rush and can make the best selection and find everything you need,” added Geissler’s Supermarket Store Director Brett Davis.

As you prepare to do your Thanksgiving shopping, Geissler’s has introduced new AI-powered smart cars.

“The first thing I will do is log in with my leaf rewards number,” said Caper by Instacart Solutions Architect Stephen Greene.

Green gave us a glimpse into how these AI-powered caper cars work.

“I’m a big fan of Geissler’s cider donuts, so we’ll put those in the cart. “You hear the china, you see the green light flashing, then we see them come into the cart with the price and that keeps track of how much more I have to spend before the $10 discount kicks in,” Green said.

Carts use advanced technology to transform shoppers’ in-store experience.

“There is also a lot of customization. All coupons that would normally have to be cut in advance or that you see at the checkout are ready to use as soon as you shop,” said Eric Nilsson, Chief Operating Officer at Geissler’s Supermarket.

The carts are available at all 7 Geissler locations.

There are approximately 30 cars at each location. Representatives are on hand to explain to customers how they work.

“I think it’s a great experience; it keeps track of your money, your stuff,” Lumpkin said. “Everything I put into it is recorded. Dollar by dollar it shows up and shows me how much I’ve spent. And this is very important to me. “Most of the time I get to the bottom of the cash register and spend too much money.”

The carts detect if you have removed an item and weigh the items that need to be weighed.

“Here are the green grapes. Now he wants me to put them in the car to weigh them. So I’ll confirm it, it tells me the price per pound and the total price,” Green said.

The cars also have the ability to detect theft and mark the store.

When you’re done shopping, you can pay directly in the cart; The cart will send you a digital receipt.

Only two weeks until Thanksgiving! For consumers feeling the effects of inflation, some relief may finally be on the horizon.
