Wedding Guest Asked to Leave Because She Weared Dress That Appeared White Under Black Lights, Not ‘Respect for Etiquette’

“I wore a yellow dress. It was so yellow that I didn’t question whether it was appropriate to wear it to a wedding, nor did my friends or family,” the guest wrote on Reddit.

A wedding guest felt “incredibly embarrassed” when she was asked to leave because she disregarded etiquette and wore a white dress; but her dress was actually yellow.

In a post reddit“Am I A——–?” On the forum, the guest explained that she recently attended a close friend’s wedding and wore a yellow dress for the occasion. “Think of Belle Beauty of the Beast yellow. Bumblebee yellow. “It’s so yellow that neither I nor my friends and family questioned whether it was appropriate to wear it to a wedding,” she wrote.

At first, her dress was very popular. The guest said she received many compliments, including from the bride who said “several times” that she loved her look. But later at night, when the main lights in the reception hall were dimmed and the black lights were turned on, the guest’s dress suddenly appeared white.

Soon after, a member of the wedding party approached her and told her she had to leave because her dress was “white and inappropriate.” The guest tried to explain the situation but to no avail.

Guest said, “I pointed out that the dress was yellow but the black lights made it look white. The member of the wedding party said he would ‘force me’ if I didn’t go.” He explained that the conversation grew in a short time. “nervous” and “hot”.

“I told her I was here to congratulate my friend, repeated that the dress was yellow, and told her I wasn’t leaving early,” she continued. “As members of the wedding party walked away, I watched as they immediately went to talk to the groom, pointing angrily in my direction. The groom shrugged and continued dancing.”

While the guest thought the matter was over, he later received criticism from a friend for refusing to leave the wedding. “They stated that they heard what was going on and that I should have left when asked because it was ‘bothering’ people and that I was making it about me ‘partying’ rather than ‘respecting wedding etiquette’.” he wrote.

Now the guest is left wondering if he made a mistake by standing still and staying at the reception. “Am I the one who didn’t leave the wedding when asked?” She concluded her post by inviting people to share their ideas for dress leggings.

Most commenters assured the guest that she wasn’t breaking any etiquette rules and that the wedding party member was “off limits” in asking her to leave.

“Who checks your clothes under black lights to see if you pass?” Nonsense,” one person wrote. “I understand if it looks white in normal light but come on, this was unusual by the end of the reception. You are fine and the person approaching you is completely out of line. Some people have nothing better to do. Look for problems that don’t exist.”

Another chimed in: “Pro tip: Once they turn off the lights and turn on a black light, the ‘wedding etiquette’ part of the night is over and it’s time for the party.”

Others noted that the only people who have the right to question the guest’s attire are the bride and groom, and they are seemingly unbothered by it.

“The bride liked the dress and told you several times. When told that your dress was white under the black light, the groom shrugged and continued dancing. Next time someone says something, laugh… and if they say something again, laugh louder and longer.” someone wrote.

One commenter blamed the whole thing on the venue. “Who uses black lights at a wedding reception? Anyone wearing so many matching colors will look white. If anything, it’s at the venue or whoever decided on black lights.”
