Man shot by deputy in Camas hospitalized

CAMAS, Wash. (KPTV) – A man was hospitalized after being shot by a deputy in Camas late Wednesday night, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Just after 10 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunshots in the 2300 block of Northeast Everett Street. Calls of more gunshots continued to come in until 10:30 p.m.

Camas Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Vancouver Police Department and Washougal Police Department responded to the scene with armored vehicles.

At around 10:40 p.m., an officer flew a drone over the property to assess the scene and found a man standing in front of the home. The sheriff’s office said it was determined that the man had a no-contact order against them, prohibiting him from being on the property and possessing a firearm.

The man eventually got into a car in the home’s driveway, and just after 11 p.m., law enforcement approached the car in an armored vehicle.

When officers tried to contact the man, gunshots rang out, according to the sheriff’s office. The man, whose name has not yet been released, was shot and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

No officers or MPs were harmed.

A Clark County deputy has been placed on critical indictment leave per agency protocol.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released at this time.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were wearing body cameras during the shooting and the video would be released later.
