BYU star receiver Chase Roberts announced in an interview with the Royal Blue Collective that he plans to enter the NFL Draft after the 2024 season. “As I finish school and move on, I’m more open to being drafted,” Roberts said. “I think maybe it would take an injury, hopefully not an injury, but something would happen to bring me back… the plan right now is to finish the season strong and then leave.”

Roberts will have one year of eligibility remaining after this season. He is a redshirt junior who has been with the program since 2021.

Roberts has been one of BYU’s top two wide receivers throughout the season. He had 31 receptions through eight games, tying for the most on the team. He has 497 receiving yards, just behind Darius Lassiter. Roberts became the go-to guy when BYU needed to move the chains. He has a team-high 27 first downs.

Perhaps most importantly, he is a team captain who used outstanding leadership on the 2024 BYU football team to an 8-0 start.

If Roberts forgoes his senior season and turns pro, BYU will be without its top two 2024 wide receivers in 2025. Senior Darius Lassiter will graduate after the 2024 season.

Fortunately, the wide receiver position in the BYU offense has been picked very well by Fesi Sitake. The Cougars reportedly have former four-star Cody Hagen waiting in the wings along with freshmen Dom McKenzie and Tei Nacua. The Cougars also have a commitment from four-star wide receiver LaMason Waller.

BYU could look to the transfer portal to add a wide receiver after the 2024 season. Regardless, thanks to BYU’s high school recruiting over the last few years, the wide receiver position is well positioned to be a strength of the BYU offense moving forward.
