Wet road conditions affecting morning commuters in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA. (Atlanta News First) – Drivers are experiencing delays on metro Atlanta roads due to continued rain conditions.

The Georgia Department of Transportation warns drivers to slow down and be careful, especially in construction areas. GDOT notes that even when it rains, lane changes or lane closures may still occur. If you see orange cones, slow down and give the construction crew space.

Although it’s unclear whether the weather is to blame, Georgia Power reports hundreds of power outages Thursday morning. More than 1,400 outages are being reported in Buford. Georgia Power is still working to determine a restoration.

More than 600 customers are without power in Brookhaven. Restoration time is scheduled for 06:45

More than 150 customers are without power in the Stone Mountain area.

Windy conditions and persistent rain overnight always have the potential to cause tree branches to break and fall on power lines.

This is an evolving story. If Atlanta News First learns of any damage or incidents due to rainy conditions, we will forward that information to you.
