Jeremy Renner named marshal of the 2024 Hollywood Christmas Parade

Jeremy Renner is already superb (as in Marvel hero and survivor of a horrific snowplowing accident) – now he’s magnificent. The actor has been announced as the grand marshal of the 92nd Hollywood Christmas Parade, organizers said Wednesday.

The two-time Oscar nominee, known for his roles as William James in “The Hurt Locker” and the arrow-shooting Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will headline the nearly 100-year-old parade. He follows in the footsteps of a number of famous grand marshals, including Bob Hope, Olivia Newton-John, William Shatner and Magic Johnson.

The parade on December 1 will begin at 6 p.m. at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles and continue for 3.2 miles along a U-shaped route. The parade ends with the appearance of jolly old elf Santa and his reindeer.

The event supports the Marine Toys for Tots foundation and will air on The CW on December 14.

“I am honored to serve as the Grand Marshal for this year’s Hollywood Christmas Parade and excited to partner with Toys for Tots to bring joy to children in need,” Renner said in a statement. “Their mission aligns closely with the work we do at the RennerVation Foundation, creating meaningful experiences for at-risk youth.”

This Christmas comes less than two years after Renner was seriously injured, nearly dying when he was run over by a 7-ton snowplow. The accident occurred on New Year’s Day 2023 while he was cleaning the driveway of his home in Nevada. He jumped out of the vehicle, then ran over him as he tried to stop the vehicle from rolling down the hill towards his nephew. He spent several weeks in hospital care recovering from 38 broken bones, severe chest trauma and a collapsed lung.

“It’s in my visions. In my dreams and in my waking thoughts.” he told The Times In May. The actor, who owes his recovery to the positive attitude of his doctors and family, returned to acting shortly after the first anniversary of the accident and starred in the third season of the TV series “Mayor of Kingstown” this year. In 2023, he founded his nonprofit organization, RennerVation Foundation.

Organizers said the remaining talent lineup for the parade will be announced soon.
