10-year-old Metro Detroit girl co-owns new Downtown Detroit restaurant

Several new restaurants have recently opened in Downtown Detroit, including Presley’s Kitchen & Bar. It has a unique story.

The American-style eatery at Woodward and Park is open seven days a week.

“Someone will find something they’ll like here no matter what,” said Brandon Davis, co-owner of Presley’s Kitchen & Bar.

Nearly 70 personnel work here. 10-year-old Presley Davis is one of the owners of the house.

“Yeah, it’s usually 51%, 49% us,” Brandon said.

“How did this happen?” I asked.

“It’s a family thing. That’s what we do. So let’s all pull together and hopefully we can grow this brand,” Brandon said.

The Davis family also owns Novella’s Pizza in Milford, named after Brandon and his wife Karissa’s 8-year-old daughter.

“We’re proud of the name on the door, we’re proud of the food and what’s served in it, and then having a family name has a way of showing that,” Brandon said.

Brandon says his little princess does it all, from cleaning the silverware to organizing the candy boxes.

“How much do you like working here?” I asked.

“I love him so much,” Presley said.

“What’s the fun about this?” I asked.

“Pretending to be older,” Presley said.

By this Presley means being the boss at company meetings.

“So you’ve been breaking a lot of dishes. Another warning,” Presley tells her mother that Karissa knows this.

“He always wants to help. When school’s out and we have to be here, you come with us, if he’s sitting here. He always wants to do something,” Brandon said.

“Why do you think it’s important for kids Presley’s age to be involved in the family business?” I asked.

“It’s work ethic. If you’re going to do something, it has to be done right. And you’re learning that now because you’re going to be held to the same standard your whole life,” Brandon said.

“What is your future plan?” I asked.

“I’m going to make another one after myself,” Presley said.
