Downtown Cleveland hospital may soon face the wrecking ball

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -St. Vincent Charity Medical Center and its architecture firm have applied for a demolition permit that would raze the vast majority of the once-thriving hospital.

The City of Cleveland Permitting Department confirmed that the hospital has applied for a demolition permit on the edge of both Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga Community College near downtown.

St. Vincent scaled back most of its operations in 2022, laying off nearly 1,000 employees in the process.

With this move, the emergency room and all inpatient care options were closed.

Demolition will include all existing structures on the main campus, except for the building called the HCC Building, or ambulatory care center.

Full plans for demolition seen here.
