Moni Kishore, the respected singer of the 1990s, who was found dead in her home in Dhaka’s Rampura last Saturday, was buried in her final resting place on Thursday night.

Although his body was found by the police last Saturday, the funeral ceremony was stopped due to family dispute. Rampura police suspected an unnatural death.

Moni Kishore converted to Islam when he married Shamima Islam; but the couple later divorced and he lived alone in his house in Rampura until his death.

As stated by his elder brother Ashok Kumar Mondol, he was expected to receive a Muslim burial due to his conversion. According to lyricist Milton Khondokar, the funeral permission was given by Moni Kishore’s daughter Ninty Chowdhury, who is currently residing in the United States.

Milton Khondokar shared with the media that the singer’s daughter was expected to come to the country but could not travel due to her ongoing exams.

He was buried in the nearby cemetery on Thursday night after prayers were performed at the Baitul Jannat Jame Mosque in South Banasree.

Born on January 9, 1961, in Lakshmipur upazila in Narail district to police officer Anil Kumar Mondol, Moni Kishore was given the name Arun Kumar Mondol. She later changed her name to Moni Kishore as a tribute to her favorite artist Kishore Kumar.

He gained popularity among the audience with his songs like “Ki Chile Amar”, “Ami More Gele Jani Tumi”, “Tumi Shudhu Amar Jonno”, “Mukhe Bolo Bhalobashi” and “Shei Duti Chokh Kothay Tomar” to name a few. .

Once a popular artist, Moni Kishore did not appear frequently on radio or television and kept his life private, away from the spotlight.

Moni Kishore has released more than 30 albums in his lifetime, apart from recording more than 500 songs for Dhallywood films and performing numerous hits.
