Rutgers doesn’t have top runners in today’s game against Gophers – Twin Cities

PISCATAWAY, NJ — While the Gophers posted a slightly improved availability report on Saturday, Rutgers suffered a major injury in its Big Ten game at SHI Stadium.

Scarlet Knights’ top threat Kyle Monangai was ruled out of playing against Minnesota; He was injured against Southern California on October 26. The 6-foot-1, 209-pound running back was the conference’s second-leading rusher this week with 931 yards and 10 touchdowns, including 626 after contact.

Rutgers is also without No. 2 running back Samuel Brown and will likely turn to true freshman Antwan Raymond, who has 43 carries for 179 yards and three TDs this season.

Monangai’s absence will put more burden on the shoulders of point guard Athan Kaliakmanis. The former Gophers QB completed 54 percent of his passes (131-for-242) for 1,650 yards, nine TDs and five INTs. He has struggled during the team’s current four-game losing streak.

While Minnesota continued to list guard Tyler Cooper, safety Darius Green and tight end Pierce Wash, cornerback Za’Quan Bryan was not included in the report.

Without Cooper last week, Minnesota switched Ashton Beers from right guard to left tackle, moved Quinn Carroll from right guard to right guard and Philip Daniels made his first career start at right guard.

Minnesota also listed special teams captain Derik LeCaptain as questionable.
