One more person died in the fire at Kasaragod temple, the death toll increased to 5

Kasaragod: One more person was injured in a fireworks accident at a temple near Nileshwar on Saturday, taking the death toll to five.

Rajith, who was treated at a private hospital in Mangaluru for severe burns, died in the morning, officials said. “He had burns on more than 50 percent of his body,” an official said.

Four people had previously died due to burn injuries related to the incident. According to Kasaragod district administration, 154 people were injured in the accident, 100 of whom were hospitalized. As of November 8, treatment of 63 people was continuing, 9 of whom were in intensive care.

The incident took place late on October 28 at the Anjoottanbalam Veererkavu temple near Nileshwar when firecrackers stored nearby exploded. Following the incident, three persons, including two temple committee members, were arrested under the Explosive Substances Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
