BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified a man found dead in his cell at the Lerdo Justice Facility as 33-year-old Michael Loren Stumbaugh III of Bakersfield.

The report stated that on October 18, 2024, Stumbaugh was found unresponsive in his cell at the Lerdo Justice Facility. It was determined that he died at the scene around 01:00 at night.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

According to the Kern County Superior Court website, Stumbaugh’s most recent arrest was on May 10, 2024, for possession of a stolen vehicle, recklessly fleeing a peace officer, fleeing a peace officer causing injury, driving against traffic, violent false imprisonment . , causes permanent serious injury by hit and run, obstructs and resists.

He also violated his post-release supervision.

He was scheduled to be sentenced on October 23.
