TURTLE LAKE, Wisconsin (WFRV) – A Northwest Wisconsin man died after being struck by two vehicles while trying to run a deer off the road after he hit it Tuesday evening.

according to Barron County Sheriff’s DepartmentFollowing a report of a ‘serious traffic accident’, multiple first responders and a Life Link Helicopter were called to the intersection of HWY 8 and 2nd Avenue east of Turtle Lake. The calls first came in around 5.40pm on Tuesday, November 19.

The initial investigation began when deputies arrived on scene and the incident began when a truck struck a deer near the intersection of HWY 8 and 2nd Street.

The driver of the truck, later identified as a 75-year-old Cameron man, and a passerby reportedly set out to remove the deer. That’s when deputies say the 75-year-old was struck by two vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities identified the drivers of the other vehicles as a 48-year-old man from Rice Lake and a 62-year-old man from Almena. However, the statement said that “all indications from the investigation indicate that this was a tragic accident.” The case will be investigated by the Barron County District Attorney’s Office.
