For the last few weeks many South Africans have been obsessed with the Checkers Little Shop mini collections, which make their return on 23 September.

Since the relaunch, consumers have been receiving a collectible for every R200 purchase at Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Checkers Foods and Checkers Sixty60, sparking a race to collect them all.

Many people flocked to Checkers stores to get their hands on Little Shop minis. Some became so invested that they began exchanging replica collectibles for others.

Going a step further, some have even started selling them on platforms such as WhatsApp groups and Facebook Marketplace.

While most people list their minis for a few hundred rands, South Africans were shocked when a Facebook user listed the rare Vitality Trolley mini for a staggering R5,500.

Consumers also took to social media to share their disappointment after being told Checkers Little Shop minis were sold out.

For many, there was nothing more disappointing than spending a large sum of money at Checkers, expecting to receive new Little Shop minis, only to discover they were “sold out” when they reached the till.

To talk CitizenShoprite Holdings confirmed: “All stores are now out of minis.”
