Officers paid tribute to their “dear friend and colleague” at Spadafora Funeral Home.

Malden police gathered to honor the life of Lt. Scott Carroll, who died suddenly Sunday morning, authorities said.

Officers greeted and paid their respects to “dear friends and colleagues” at Spadafora Funeral Home. Malden police wrote to X.

Carroll, who died at the age of 56, joined the Malden Police Department in 2000 after serving in the United States Marine Corps. by department. He became a sergeant in 2014 and a lieutenant in 2023.

“Scott had an incredible ability to talk to people and help them.” his obituary reads. “It was the part of his job he loved the most.”

According to his obituary, Carroll graduated from Everett High School in 1986 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Western New England University and a master’s degree from the University of Lowell.

Carroll also volunteered with the Special Olympics.

“Instead of flowers donations Special Olympics may be held in memory of Scott,” the obituary says.

The department’s post said Scott’s death had a “profound impact” on the department.

“As the blue lights shined brightly, we stood united in a strong show of support and solidarity as we honored the family, friends and loved ones of Lt. Scott Carroll,” the department wrote. “I hope his eternal rest will be a source of inspiration and motivate us to continue to honor his life and dedication to service both on and off duty.”

Family and friends may attend at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 8, at 600 Pleasant St. in Malden. You are invited to the ceremony at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at .
