A skydiving instructor and army veteran died when he crashed while flying fast in Brazil on Nov. 3.

Jose Lima, 49, had ventured to Pedra Bonita, a popular cliff in Rio de Janeiro known for its spectacular views and adventure sports. Surrounded by friends and fellow enthusiasts, he checked his equipment carefully before the flight, making sure everything was in place.

Horrifying images taken just minutes before the incident showed Lima preparing for takeoff, ready to experience the excitement of the sky once again. However, as he started running, he appeared to lose his balance as his parachute began to open. The sudden misstep led him astray from his path and led to a tragic downfall.

Four hours after authorities were notified, rescuers found Jose Lima’s body. According to the Daily Mail, the parachute and equipment were seized by the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police as part of the investigation.

Jose Lima came to the national park alone and climbed a path that stretched to the edge of the cliff, where jumping was prohibited.
