FOND DU LAC COUNTY – Three unrelated vehicle pursuit continued Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office MPs are busy overnight on November 2-3.

The first occurred at 9:44 p.m. on Nov. 2, when a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a speeding violation in G County near the town of Auburn’s SS District. The vehicle did not respond to the deputy’s lights and sirens, increased its speed and turned off its headlights to avoid the deputy.

The pursuit continued south until the vehicle approached the S Township intersection with Youth Camp Road and was unable to control the vehicle and crashed into a cemetery near the intersection.

The driver, an 18-year-old from Waukesha, and a passenger were taken into custody without incident.

Kewaskum Fire Department and Ambulance assisted at the scene, and EMS personnel medically cleared both suspects and released them into the custody of deputies.

While the suspect’s vehicle was seriously damaged in the accident, many gravestones in the cemetery also suffered material damage. No squad cars or other vehicles were damaged by the pursuit.

The pursuit lasted approximately 4.5 kilometers. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted on the case.

The second pursuit resulted in the arrest of the 19-year-old man

At 12:23 a.m. on Nov. 3, a Fond du Lac County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a speeding violation on State 23 near County I. The deputy activated his lights and sirens, and that driver increased his speed and turned off the vehicle’s headlights. He turned on his headlights to escape.

After a pursuit that lasted approximately 3 kilometers, the suspect entered a dead-end road and tried to hide behind a closed workplace. Deputies followed the vehicle and took the driver, a 19-year-old Fond du Lac man, into custody without incident.

The Fond du Lac City Police Department assisted at the scene.

The suspect in the third pursuit ran on foot after disabling the vehicle

At 2:03 a.m. on Nov. 3, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 41 near Lost Arrow Road because its license plates were not posted. With lights and sirens on, the vehicle increased its speed.

After a chase of approximately 1 mile, the suspect attempted to exit US 151 off the interstate and turn right, but lost control of the vehicle and spun, plunging into the grassy median on the divided highway. The driver got out of the vehicle and started running on foot.

Unable to locate the driver at the time of the crash, the City of Fond du Lac Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in locating the driver and positively identified the suspect as a 22-year-old Fond du Lac man.

Deputies were able to take him into custody around 10 a.m. on November 3.
