Alan Shearer claims Man Utd’s new boss Ruben Amorim could move on with a star

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer thinks new Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim could choose to sell Marcus Rashford in the next few transfer windows.

The Red Devils decided to sack Erik ten Hag on Monday before moving quickly to bring in his successor. Sporting Lisbon head coach Amorim is in fine form.

Manchester Utd The Red Devils have made a poor start to the Premier League season as they sit in 13th place ahead of their match against Chelsea on Sunday.

Amorim will take over a team that has won just three of its nine Premier League games this season and only newly promoted Southampton have scored fewer goals than him this season.

Rashford, who scored 30 goals in 56 games in Ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford, has been inefficient since then, scoring just eight goals in his last 42 Premier League appearances for Man Utd.

The English national player could only score one goal in the league this season. and Shearer thinks Amorim may have seen enough to persuade him to sell the Man Utd academy product.

Shearer told Betfair: “Ruben Amorim will have his own ideas. He will figure out who he wants to keep and who he wants to push aside.

“Marcus Rashford is someone who needs to think and make the right decision. Is he holding on to it or trying to keep it going?

“There’s no doubt about the talent – the 30-odd goals he scored a few years ago shows you he’s got it – but can Amorim take it away from him once again and regain his confidence?

“It’s just a matter of where Marcus is now and whether he wants to do it or not. “We haven’t seen enough of him lately and I don’t know why since we’re not inside the football club.”

Shearer added of his general feeling about Amorim’s appointment at Man Utd: “Sporting is obviously a very big club, but it’s not as big as Man United, even if it’s not the biggest club in the world.

“You can see the reaction, the scrutiny and the intensity that goes into this club every week. It’s very promising, it’s looking very good and there’s no arguing with the work he’s done at Sporting but at Manchester United it’s undoubtedly a step further.”

“If he’s the one to take over, you’d think the team could improve pretty quickly; There is no doubt that Manchester United are better than 14th in the Premier League. Time will tell how good they can be.

“Without the additions I doubt these are top four material at this stage. We’ll have to wait and see if they can deliver in January but they’re much better than 14th.”

Predicting the score of Man Utd’s match against Chelsea on Sunday, led by Ruud van Nistelrooy, Shearer continued: “When one manager leaves and another comes in, there will be a different atmosphere at Old Trafford, a renewed hope and belief. On Sunday , Amorim or not, especially after Man United scored five goals in the Carabao Cup.

“There will be more hope going into the game this weekend than there was last week against West Ham and that could really energize the players on the pitch.

“I was at St James’s for Chelsea’s trip in midweek and the team had changed completely from the league game between the two and the side they put out against Man United will be different again.

“It’s a difficult decision to understand and that’s probably why I’ll go for the draw. I’d like both teams to score because both teams can improve defensively.

“The addition of a new manager to the bench at Old Trafford for the first time in the Premier League means United can take something from this game, whether it is Ruben or Ruud.”
