VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A woman was rescued from a burning home in Vista on Friday, authorities said.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of W. Bobier Drive, according to Lt. Matthew Carpenter of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

When deputies arrived on scene, they were alerted that someone was still in the burning house.

Deputy Robert Oliveri didn’t hesitate to enter the front door and move through the smoke to find the person in the home, authorities said.

Outside the home, Deputy Craig Vanden Bossche and the Good Samaritan found an open window to communicate with the woman trapped in the home, according to law enforcement. There, Vanden Bossche and the Good Samaritan, with Oliveri’s help, were able to pull the woman to safety through the window.

The victim was taken to the hospital, while Oliveri was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. Authorities say both the deputies and the Good Samaritan are expected to be OK.

“The men and women of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office risk their lives every day for the communities they serve,” Carpenter said. “Last night’s incident is yet another example of the extraordinary courage shown by our MPs in protecting lives. I am incredibly proud of every MP who answered the call. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to the brave community member who risked his safety to help a stranger. “His courage and quick response played a key role in saving a life.”
