GREENWOOD, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Three people died and one was hospitalized in a midnight fire in the 1000 block of East Hickory Street in Greenwood on Wednesday, Oct. 30, police said.

Two Greenwood students, 18-year-old Daniel Isaiah Arrington and 5-year-old Vivian Medrano, and their mother, Wendy Medrano, 46, died in the fire. According to Greenwood police.

Greenwood Public Schools made a social media post stating that there are counselors ready to support students at each campus.

“We are heartbroken to share the tragic news of a house fire in the Greenwood community early this morning that claimed the lives of two beloved Greenwood students,” the post said.

Greenwood police said crews responded to the fire shortly after midnight. The teams extinguishing the fire worked throughout the night until the morning.

The victims’ bodies were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for identification, police said.

Crime scene investigation continues. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but police said they will share updates as they become available.

Greenwood Public Schools will host a community prayer service for the victims on Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. on the Greenwood High School football field.
