Hunter found fatally mauled by bear in Alaska

A lapsed hunter in Alaska was found dead Wednesday after an apparent bear attack, state police said.

Alaska State Troopers were called shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday after Tad Fujioka, 50, of Sitka, did not return from a deer hunting trip, law enforcement said.

State police said a search was launched and his body was found around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. said in the daily events report.

“The investigation revealed that he was the victim of a possibly fatal bear attack,” they said in the report.

Sitka is a city and county of ca. 8,400 people in the Alaskan panhandle southwest of Juneau.

The species of bear suspected in the attack was not specified. There is in Alaska black bears, brown bears – this includes grizzly bears and polar bears.
