A fundraiser was held for an Alvord man who died in a fire at his home on West Franklin Street on Oct. 21.

According to information provided by the Wise County Sheriff’s office, 26-year-old Bryce Tuck Jr. was pronounced dead in Medical City Decatur after suffering injuries in the fire.

Tuck’s sister, Heather Lewis, set up a GoFundMe helping pay for the funeral as well as travel expenses for family members living out of state. Lewis detailed in the GoFundMe campaign that the cause of the fire was attributed to an electric heater that Tuck was using while sleeping.

“I am trying to raise money to fly my family to Texas for the funeral, as well as cover the cost of taking time off from work as my son requires weekly therapy appointments and treatments,” Lewis said on the fundraising page. “We will also be putting extra money donated to the local animal shelter in my brother’s name to remember his beloved dog, Goldie, who was with him during this tragic fire.”

The fundraiser’s goal is $6,000. As of Monday afternoon, over $1,600 had been raised.

GoFundMe stated that Tuck’s funeral was on Friday, but no other details are available at this time.
