Police arrested 12 people for attacking a Sangrur resident with sharp weapons and opening fire at his friend’s house in Mohali Phase 6.

While the police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Harry Baba from Patiala, the others are on the run. Police nominated Manjinder alias Laddi, Harry Baba, Resham Singh, Inder Waraich and Ballu in the FIR and detained seven unidentified persons.

The police had initiated the investigation based on the complaint of victim Dilpreet Singh, who shared that she had come to Mohali on November 13 to visit her friend who was admitted to the local civil hospital. He later stayed with her at her home.

On November 16, while he and his friend were watching television, 12 men entered the house with swords, sticks and other sharp-edged weapons.

“Dad Harry, they attacked me with sharp-edged weapons before firing multiple shots and damaging the LCD TV. When I lost consciousness, the accused fled, making death threats, after which my friend hurriedly took me to the local civil hospital,” the victim said.

A police officer said, “We have arrested one of the accused, but we are still verifying the authenticity of the complaint. The accused and the victim were friends before. Therefore, we have not concluded the investigation yet. We will arrest the other accused as soon as possible.”

The defendants are accused of 331 (home invasion), 115 (2) (intentionally causing harm), 125 (conduct endangering the life or personal safety of others), 324 (mischief), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), 351( 3) (criminal intimidation, especially involving serious threats), 191(3) (arming rebellion with weapons likely to result in death), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly is guilty of the offense committed in the prosecution of a common purpose) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as relevant sections of the Arms Act at Phase-1 police station.
