Shares of telecom companies Bharti AirtelJio Finance and Vodafone Idea It will continue to be in the spotlight on Friday as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) releases subscriber data as of September 30, 2024.

According to the latest data as of September 30, 2024, India’s broadband market continues to be dominated by five major players who collectively dominate 98.42% of the total wired and wireless broadband market share.

Reliance Jio Infocomm ranks first with 477.94 million subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 285.17 million subscribers. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea retains the third position with 126.36 million subscribers, while state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has 37.73 million subscribers.

Atria Convergence Technologies is in the top five with 2.27 million subscribers.

Additionally, as of September 30, 2024, the Indian telecommunications market exhibits different leadership patterns in both wired and wireless broadband segments. In the wired broadband industry, where the top five providers control 69.61% of the market, Reliance Jio Infocomm is the leader with 14.16 million subscribers. It is followed by Bharti Airtel with 8.48 million subscribers.

The wireless broadband segment shows even stronger market concentration, with the top five providers holding 99.98% of the market share. In this segment, Reliance Jio Infocomm maintained its dominant position with 463.78 million subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 276.68 million subscribers. While Vodafone Idea Ltd has a significant presence in the wireless segment with 126.35 million subscribers, it is not among the top five in the wired segment.Also read: Goldman Sachs sets Nifty target at 27,000 in 2025

“In September 2024, 13.32 million subscribers requested Mobile Number Portability (MNP). However, since the implementation of MNP, cumulative MNP claims have increased from 1025.78 million at the end of August 24 to 1039.11 million at the end of September 24,” TRAI said in its statement.

The number of active wireless subscribers in September 2024 (at VLR’s peak) was 1059.97 million.
