Kentucky youth call for tougher anti-vaping laws amid ongoing concerns

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Despite a law passed last year aimed at keeping unauthorized tobacco products off store shelves, youth and health advocates in Kentucky are urging state lawmakers to implement stricter anti-vaping regulations.

Philena Ash, a member of the Youth Advisory Board, emphasized the impact of electronic cigarettes on her peers:

“Many of my very talented friends started vaping in middle school. Not only did I see their use increase, but I also saw their health and athletic performance decline.”

The current legislation’s lack of enforcement measures against retailers selling unauthorized products is sparking debate in the state Senate about a new bill. This proposed law would require retailers to obtain licenses and could impose penalties on teens caught vaping off school campuses.
