Police say minor crash and road rage incident sparked deadly shooting at Pete’s Pizza in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man has died after being shot in the head at a pizza shop in North Philadelphia.

Police said they believe the incident started with a minor accident that included a road rage fight before culminating in a fatal shooting.

The incident happened just after midnight Thursday at Pete’s Pizza in the 2000 block of Ridge Boulevard next to Girard College.

Homicide investigators say they watched the whole thing play out on video from multiple angles.

“The pizza wrapper captured very clear footage of our shooter and pretty clear footage of the moment of the shooting,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Police say the 26-year-old victim was driving a Honda when he got into a minor accident with another man and pulled over in front of the pizza shop.

At that time, the people who entered the pizzeria first started arguing and then got into a fight.

Police said the gunman shot the victim in the head and then left the store in an SUV believed to be dark-colored or black.

“Homicide investigators will seize all the cameras and recordings, and hopefully we can get the license plate of the gunman’s vehicle. But we also have a pretty good description of the gunman, with shoulder-length dreadlocks that appear to be gray.” ” said Little.

Employees at Pete’s Pizza have dealt with a lot of problems this year; Fatal shooting of one of the pizza delivery drivers.

Danny Matthews, 29, was shot and killed outside his business in June as he returned from a delivery. Police said the attack was motivated by robbery, but the suspect did not flee with the money before fleeing the scene. There was no word on whether anyone was arrested in Matthews’ case.
