OpenAI Releases ChatGPT Guide for Teachers, But Educators Remain Skeptical

However, ever-increasing investments in education initiatives point to OpenAI as a key stakeholder in the educational applications of Artificial Intelligence. In fact, the company recently hired Coursera’s former chief revenue officer, Leah Belsky, to lead its education initiatives.

However, a brief survey conducted by the Pew Research Center shows that one in four respondents confirm the harmful impact of the use of artificial intelligence tools in the teaching-learning process. Moreover, only 18% of all K-12 educators currently use at least one AI application in education. These figures demonstrate the extent to which education stakeholders differ in their perceptions of how, or whether, AI should be incorporated into the classroom.

The teacher guide is an important first step as OpenAI works to integrate AI into education, but it remains to be seen whether educators will fully embrace AI or continue to oppose its integration in classrooms. Until further ethical, privacy, and control concerns are addressed, the path to widespread adoption of AI in education will likely remain slow and cautious.
