Dylan Thomas: Jury says Cardiff murder blamed on open-mindedness

“Despite having everything in life, Dylan Thomas achieved very little,” Mr. Bull said.

“On the other side of the coin, Mr. Bush achieved great success from a very small income,” he added.

“As can be perceived in the case of Dylan Thomas, everything in his life was on the rise, while life was in a downward spiral.”

In his closing speech, defending defender Orlando Pownall KC said his client was clearly suffering from mental health problems.

“It’s your job to decide whether this defendant’s actions likely resulted in substantial harm,” he said.

“Mental health is at the heart of this particular case. If you think a mental health explanation is likely, you should and will be acquitted,” he said.

In their testimony, the two psychiatrists agreed that Mr Thomas was suffering from psychosis at the time of the attack.

Dr Thomas, who treated Mr Thomas at Ashworth High Secure Hospital. Panchu Xavier said psychosis was a major contributing factor to Mr. Bush’s killing.

Prosecution expert Dr. Dilum Jayawickrama said psychosis was not a significant factor and Mr Thomas remained in control of his behavior.

The trial continues.
