CHICAGO – A suspect was found dead Tuesday afternoon after a woman was fatally stabbed and an off-duty police officer was grazed by gunfire. Chicago’s Northwest Side.

The incident occurred around 2:23 p.m. near a residence in the 5600 block of West Leland Boulevard.

According to Chicago police, the officer witnessed a stabbing and intervened by shooting at the attacker. The police officer was injured in his leg during the shooting.

The stabbing victim died at the scene, while the police officer was taken to Lutheran General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ring footage obtained by FOX 32 from neighbors shows the attacker running into a gold minivan after the attack. He then took off.

Later that evening, Chicago police found the gunman dead inside a vehicle in the 5500 block of West Leland Avenue. The identity of the person has not yet been disclosed.

“I don’t really know what to say about it. I was doing the dishes and I heard all these police cars,” neighbor Gloria Gene said.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating the incident. The relevant officer will be placed on administrative duties for at least 30 days.
