The City of Missoula The Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), in partnership with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), is working together to create a plan to improve safety along the Reserve Street corridor from I-90 to Brooks Street (US 12). ), to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes, especially on Reserve Street.

“We recognize that Reserve Street is a central thoroughfare for thousands of users,” explains City of Missoula Transportation Planner Glenn Ingram. “We want to hear more from motorists, cyclists and all road users about changes we can make to improve safety along the corridor.”

A critical part of US Highway 93, Reserve Street sees some of the highest traffic numbers in the state of Montana. With such heavy and versatile use, this Security Action Plan will provide the opportunity to determine how Reserve Street can serve all users more securely.

Starting this fall, project partners will examine accident and traffic data patterns on Reserve Street and evaluate feedback collected from the public. This information will inform a final plan to be reviewed and adopted by all institutions in late 2025. MPO, the City of Missoula, and MDT will seek opportunities to implement the Safety Action Plan as funding becomes available. A timeline for funding allocation has not yet been determined; This means that the changes approved on Reserve Street will happen gradually.
