1. A 3-year-old boy was killed after an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. 3-year-old boy dies in Newport News after police call accidental shooting.

   On Newsome Dr., not far from Newsome Park Elementary School, investigators tell us a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself. This incident occurred Tuesday evening at Soundview Townhomes.

   Officers responded when they received a report of a shooting. When they responded to the scene, they saw that a 3-year-old child was found in the house with a gunshot wound. Police said he was taken to hospital but did not survive. Police reported a gun was seized.

   News 3 is working to learn more details about this incident.

2. The man was convicted in the fatal hit-and-run of an 8-year-old boy in Chesapeake last year. Yesterday the jury found Richard Humbert Guilty of fatally shooting Forrest Hooper with his car.

   Police said Humbert fled the scene thinking he had hit a deer. He did not stop after hitting the boy, but later pulled over to check his car for damage, according to court documents.

   Closing statements were made in court by the state’s attorney and the defense. As we reported, a mistrial was declared at an earlier hearing in this case last month. We are waiting to learn the date when the sentence will be finalized.

3. President-elect Donald Trump continues to make new cabinet selections in the White House. The next president’s administration continues to take shape. Trump’s picks include billionaire businessman Howard Lutnick for transition adviser and commerce secretary. Former Small Business Executive Linda McMahon will be education secretary.

   Additionally, TV star Dr. Mehmet Oz was Trump’s choice to run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

   Yesterday in Texas, Trump joined Space X CEO Elon Musk at the test launch of the company’s largest ship. Trump has been questioned over his controversial selection of former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz as the next attorney general.

   He responded by saying that he was not reconsidering this candidacy.

Meteorologist Myles Henderson says we’ll have another hot day with highs near 70. With the cold weather comes intermittent showers. Today, the weather is mostly cloudy and intermittent showers are expected due to the advance of the cold front.

If you plan to go out in the afternoon, bring an umbrella with you.

Showers will continue overnight until the early hours of tomorrow morning. The weekend is cool and windy.

We’re Tracking: Suspected shooters linked to Landyn Davis shooting in court

• New details are emerging after two suspects connected to the shooting of Landyn Davis appeared in court. You may remember that he was the 8-year-old boy who was shot in the head while playing a video game at home. Two men appeared in court this week in connection with the Feb. 13 shooting that left Landyn hospitalized for three months.

  A witness testified that Jawuan Jeffries and Tori’yon Cook fired more than 20 shots into the house over an alleged dispute Jeffries was having with another person.

  The witness, who cannot be identified due to a court order, claims that he was with Cook and Jefferies on February 13. The witness claims that Cook, Jeffries, and themselves went to the Scarborough neighborhood where Landyn lived. According to witness testimony, the three would roll dice and smoke cigarettes at the home of Landyn’s mother, Emily Rigby, before heading to a recording studio.

  The witness said that as Jeffries was walking toward the house, he saw someone he was having trouble with and started shooting two guns along with Cook. Rigsby said he grew up near Jeffries’ home but did not know the other two suspects, even saying they would have been in that neighborhood that night.

  The witness’ phone was seized at the scene. A detective told the court that when they looked at phone records they found Jeffries and Cook’s phones were connected to a cell tower near Scarborough Square.

  However, Jeffries’ lawyer argues that the phone data does not indicate that Jeffries was physically shot. Other evidence showed that more than 20 bullet casings were recovered from the scene.

  The judge found that the state bore the burden of proof and certified the charges to the district court. Now, both Jeffries’ and Cook’s cases will be presented to the grand jury next month on December 2.
