A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in Nebraska city Tuesday morning

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Authorities in Otoe County are investigating after an 18-year-old from Omaha was struck and killed by a vehicle at a major highway intersection early Tuesday morning.

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release on social media that it was first notified that 18-year-old Harrell Jackson Jr. of Omaha was walking on Highway 2 near the Highway 75 interchange.

“While deputies were responding to the area, a vehicle struck a pedestrian,” OCSO said in a statement. “Responding deputies, Nebraska City Fire and Rescue arrived and attempted life-saving measures for the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Authorities added that Jackson Jr. was wearing dark clothing while walking on the highway.

“(He) was walking in the dark, in the lane of traffic on the Highway 2 on-ramp, when Jackson was struck by a westbound vehicle,” OCSO said.

The sheriff’s office said the incident is still under investigation.
