Detectives called to the scene confirmed the presence of human remains. FBI teams consisting of the Evidence Recovery Team, the Pittsburgh Field Office, and the Mercyhurst University Forensic Anthropology Team were called to assist in the exhumation of the body.

After the body was exhumed, it was sent to the West Virginia Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and identification. The body is planned to be sent to Mercyhurst University for a full forensic examination and collection of additional evidence.

The identity of the body has not been made public, but law enforcement is investigating this case as a homicide. Anyone with information should call the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office Detective Unit at 304-291-7260.

The teams listed above were assisted by the West Virginia State Police, Mon Metro Drug Task Force, and MECCA 911.
