Bethany Hosts Artificial Intelligence Training Event

Bethany College hosted its annual advisor brunch, Salina, at Yaya’s Euro Bistro, offering approximately 25 local advisors a unique opportunity to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and career advising. The event also featured a discussion-leading presentation by Bethany College Biology Professor Mark McDonald on “Education and Technology: Artificial Intelligence in Education and Careers,” which examined the complex impact of artificial intelligence on today’s academic environment.

McDonald, a Bethany College faculty member and alumna of the institution since 1996, drew from her extensive background in biological sciences and her active role in Bethany’s artificial intelligence research initiatives.

According to Bethany, the presentation gave attendees valuable insight into current and future applications of AI in college admissions, student support, and administrative efficiency. McDonald also discussed the benefits of AI integration and potential challenges in educational environments, highlighting ethical considerations.

“We were pleased to highlight this important topic at our Wichita-area brunch,” said Sabrina Wollenberg, Director of Admissions at Bethany College. “As consultants noted in our subsequent discussions, many did not realize the scope of AI tools and applications available for education today. “This meeting sparked meaningful conversations about how AI can shape a more supportive, effective learning environment.”

Following McDonald’s presentation, consultants expressed renewed interest in the potential of AI to improve educational outcomes. “The AI presentation was amazing,” shared one consultant. “I left with a new perspective on how these tools can positively impact our schools and bridge the gap between high school and college advising.” Another added: “I was skeptical, but now I walk away with ideas for how AI can support students and educators.”

Known for its commitment to innovation and the liberal arts, Bethany College regularly hosts informational events for educators and counselors addressing important topics such as mental health, financial aid, and the role of artificial intelligence in education.
