Man Utd news: Is Shaw, Mainoo and Yoro’s return imminent?

Manchester United officials refuse to say who authorized the use of footage released in the nearly seven-minute video edit of the first training session under new head coach Ruben Amorim, but there was one particularly well-chosen element.

First, the nitty-gritty – with the caveat that a number of international players are still set to return, trying to decide who starts at Ipswich on Sunday is fraught with peril and promise at Portman Road, apart from the obvious consequence that those involved have had more time to work with Amorim the “new idea” he introduced.

New signing Leny Yoro and England duo Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo have been involved after recent injuries.

Shaw hasn’t played for United since February, Mainoo’s last game was at Aston Villa on October 6 and Yoro is still due for his first start since his £52m move from Lille in the summer.

Secondly, Yoro and Shaw were on the left and right sides of Amorim’s preferred back three. Jonny Evans was in the middle, Tyrell Malacia was on the left wing and Antony was on the right. The personnel may change, but that’s what we can expect United to be like at the weekend.

I’m pretty sure Amorim will pick more of Mainoo for a private chat about positioning, but this has been aired as well, as the former Sporting boss revealed the moves and positions he wants from the midfield.

And then there was the run. On four occasions the United senior was seen running back after Amorim had signaled a turnover and a counter-attack.

The person who decided to use this material put a lot of thought into it.

United have been repeatedly criticized for their lack of work rate and poor tracking of passes.

Someone at Old Trafford wants us to know that Amorim is trying to solve this problem.
