5-month-old baby, 2-year-old sister and their mother gang raped by 3 men in Borrowdale

A 27-year-old woman from Borrowdale suffered a horrific ordeal after being gang-raped at gunpoint by three men in Harare on Saturday. Tragically, her two young daughters, aged just five months and two, are also believed to have been sexually assaulted by the attackers.

The harrowing incident began when the mother left her home to get air time at the intersection of Harare Drive and Alpes Road. She was returning home, carrying her five-month-old daughter on her back and her two-year-old child on her shoulders, when she encountered three unidentified men on the bridge near the Pomona Quarry Stones.

In a swift and brutal attack, the men tripped him, causing him to fall to the ground. They took turns attacking him, and the situation escalated to include his children. The harrowing nature of the attack shocked the local community and raised immediate concerns about security in the area.

The woman, who managed to return home after the attack, told her husband about the terrible incident she had experienced. Together, they immediately filed a police report to ensure justice for the heinous crime committed against them.

Harare provincial police spokesman Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the disturbing details of the case. “Police are investigating a case of rape in Borrowdale involving a mother and her two babies,” he said. He detailed the grisly circumstances of the attack and revealed that one of the attackers held an unidentified gun to the woman’s forehead while others attacked her.

“One of the accused ordered the complainant to remain silent and they picked her up and laid her on the grass with her children,” Insp Chakanza said. The police spokesman stated that the attackers did not use any protection during the attacks, which further increased the trauma experienced by the victims.

After the attack ended, the perpetrators instructed the woman to stand up and walk away without looking back; The woman obeyed this order because she was afraid for her life. The three men then disappeared into the darkness, leaving the victims in shock and devastation.

Following the incident, the family was taken to Parirenyatwa Group Hospitals for medical examinations and necessary care was provided. While residents express their fear and anger about the increase in violence against women and children, the community grapples with the consequences of such a brutal crime.

This tragic incident has highlighted the urgent need to increase security measures in Harare, especially in areas where families expect to feel safe. Local leaders and advocacy groups are calling for more action to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure justice for victims of such heinous acts.

While the investigation continues, police are appealing for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators. As collective efforts are vital in combating the scourge of gender-based violence, we call on the community to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
