Kelley’s Irish Pub is closing its doors after 34 years

VERO BEACH, Fla. — A treasured bar in Vero Beach is saying goodbye to the community after 34 years of dedicated service.

The owner shared with WPTV’s Mello Styles on Monday that financial difficulties have become a significant burden.

Kelley’s Irish Pub has been a Vero Beach staple for over three decades, and as they prepare to close their doors, they reflect on the wonderful memories created within its walls.

Kelley’s Irish Pub has been a part of many lives in the community since its opening in 1990.

Owner Donna Cronin recalled the good times.

“Grandparents coming over, people getting married and meeting here on their first dates, and Fridays were filled with Mr. Kelly’s music,” he recalled.

But now the bar faces a heartbreaking outcome.

“It is with great sadness that we will be closing this week due to back tax liens and ongoing financial issues,” Cronin said.

Cronin took over the pub from Garry Kelly in 2019, recognizing the financial difficulties the pub was facing. Hoping to make a difference, he poured his savings into the business.

“I estimate over $300,000,” Cronin said when asked about his investment.

When asked why he did so much, he said he “wanted to preserve the heritage of this place.”

Unfortunately, he admits, the challenges were too great to overcome.

Longtime customers are expressing their sadness at the closing of Kelley’s Irish Pub.

“If that doesn’t happen, you lose some of that community,” said Bill Korherr, a loyal patron. “This is unfortunate and those who have made this a part of their lives will truly feel the impact.”

Cronin extends their sincerest gratitude to every customer who walks through the door and every business and organization they have had the honor of partnering with over the past 30 years.
